Velcro was discovered by Swiss engineer George de Mestral noticed tiny burrs clinging stubbornly to his dog during a walk. This simple annoyance led to the invention of Velcro. An “insignificant” founding now used in aerospace missions, medical equipment, textile design, and more.

In this post, I invite you to step into the depths of your own beginnings—because within every founder lies a defining set of moments, challenges, and convictions that shape not just a business, but a purpose.

The Spark

Every journey begins with a moment of clarity—a spark that lights the way forward. Sometimes it’s a late-night realisation; other times, it arrives through an unexpected encounter or a persistent frustration begging for a solution.

This is where your story begins.
That pivotal moment when the idea took shape, when you felt the shift, when possibility became your goal.

The Obstacle

No founder’s path is free of struggle.
From financial constraints to technological barriers, from operational missteps to personal doubt—you’ve walked through challenges that could have easily stopped you.

But they didn’t.
Your belief in the mission, your refusal to surrender, and the dedication of your team carried you through.

Here is where you highlight the turning points—those obstacles you confronted, and more importantly, how you overcame them.

The Goal

Behind every lasting venture sits a  goal.
Maybe it’s the need to solve a problem no one else saw clearly.
Maybe it’s a longing to widen access, build community, or create change.

Whatever your goal  is, it is the compass that guides every decision, every pivot, every sacrifice you make in and for your business.
This is where you articulate your mission and the values that shape your journey.
—Your founding story anchors your goal.

The Journey

The beauty of founding stories lies in their singularity—no two are ever the same.

Your journey carries its own pace, rhythm, setbacks, surprises, and breakthroughs.
It is a reflection of your identity, your lived experiences, and your vision of what the future should look like.

Celebrate the quirks, the detours, the improvisations, the serendipity.
These are the moments that make your story yours.

The Invitation

As you look back, take a moment to honour the distance travelled—and the possibilities ahead.

That your story is far from finished.
And you are still building, still shaping, still pushing boundaries.

Invite your audience into this next chapter.
Let them witness your growth, rally around your purpose, and become part of the journey you’re writing every day.

More Than Just a Narrative

A founding story is more than a narrative—
it is the essence of who we are and why we do what we do.

By sharing it, we reconnect with our goals, reaffirm our direction, and—equally—hope to inspire others to pursue their own quests for impact and greatness. It is the velcro that keeps your business grounded and on track. WR
