This follows from the question we have been discussing – on whether or not to use AI. The answer is a definite “YES!”. But like all tools, the real question is not whether you use it, but how.

AI helps. But only when it is used within a disciplined structure.

Frameworking

It helps when it does just 20 percent of the writing. No more. That 20 percent is where it accelerates, not where it leads.

The real work sits with you.

Forty percent is pre preparation. This is where the narrative is truly built. It comes from streamlining your perspective, being clear on what you stand for, and aligning that thinking to the purpose and goals you want to achieve. It is in how you craft your questions, how you structure your interviews, and how you draw out authentic responses. This is not mechanical work. This is thinking work. This is brand work.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, has consistently emphasised that AI is meant to “augment human intelligence, not replace it.” That distinction matters. When leaders rely on AI to do the thinking, they lose the very layer that makes their narrative distinctive. When they use it to enhance clarity and speed, the output becomes sharper without losing authenticity.

Ownership

Only after this foundation is in place should AI come in. And even then, it works best when it is not generic. It should be your owned and trained model. One that understands your positioning, your tone, your manner, and how you express value. Without this, you are not using AI as an extension of your brand. You are outsourcing your voice.

The final forty percent is editing. And not just editing once. Editing, refining, restructuring, and sharpening. This is where the narrative is brought back into alignment. It is where you ensure that what is written reflects what you actually mean. It is where you share the narrative, invite comments, and create collective ownership over the message.

The Human Factor

Internet entrepreneur Reid Hoffman has spoken about the importance of iteration in the age of AI, noting that AI can generate quickly, but humans must “steer, refine, and take responsibility for the final output.” This reinforces the role of editing not as a clean-up step, but as a strategic layer of ownership.

Without these fundamentals, AI does not build your narrative. It dilutes it.

It gives you something that is generic. Something that sounds right but does not feel right. Something that is not fully representative of who you are as a brand. Over time, this does not just stall your growth. It can break down what you have already built.

Research from the global communications firm Edelman has shown that trust is built on authenticity and consistency, and once lost, it is difficult to regain. When AI generated content introduces inconsistencies or inaccuracies, it chips away at that trust. What begins as a shortcut can become a liability.

It can introduce inconsistencies. It can create hallucinations. It can erode trust.

Used carelessly, AI does not just fail to add value. It takes value away.

But used with intention, structure, and discipline, it becomes what it was meant to be. A tool that sharpens your thinking, accelerates your output, and strengthens your narrative without ever replacing it. Because in the end, your brand is not built by AI.

It is built by how clearly you think, and how deliberately you choose to express it.
